Alan Pardew Believes Newcastle May Have Found Their Cutting Edge

After Newcastle United’s dramatic extra time 3-2 win over Crystal Palace, Alan Pardew hoped that his players had at last found their cutting edge.

Following Papiss Cisse’s two on Saturday, Emmanuel Riviere (2) and Paul Dummett came in for a special mention after scoring the goals that put United into the fourth round and a a tie at Manchester City.

With Crystal Palace fielding a complete second team after making eleven changes, clearly the task was made easier, though strikers thrive on confidence and goals against anybody is the only way to get that moving in the right direction.

Alan Pardew;

“Anybody who has seen us play this year will know that the top of the pitch has been an issue for us.

“We have just not had that cutting edge.

“Perhaps the two goals on Saturday and two tonight are a big lift for the club.

“I am so pleased for Manu (Riviere), he has worked tirelessly this season and he deserves those goals.

“That will give him a real lift.

“Paul is a local lad and he is having to prove to the Newcastle public that he’s good enough, it is hard for players to come through the academy these days.

“Sadio (Haidara) gets a bit more glamour than Paul, but Paul does what it says on the tin.

“He is a tough tackler, good in the air, getting better going forward.

“How he has ended up in the middle of the goal at that time, I don’t know.”
