Shola Ameobi Looking Forward To Playing In Front Of Crowds Of A Thousand
Shola Ameobi has eventually found a new home, signing for Turkish club Gaziantep BB (Buyuksehir Belediyespor).
A lot of Newcastle fans will be relieved that he has been signed up, after no clubs came in for the striker and he was reported to be still training at United.
Despite strange reports of supposed interest from Premier League club Hull City (with rumours in between of a move to Australia amongst others) towards the end of last season, Shola instead finds himself in the second tier of Turkish football.
Having signed a one year deal, he will find a bit of a culture shock from what he is used to at St.James’ Park.
Fifty thousand crowds replaced by an average of little over a thousand at Gaziantep BB, who finished a lowly fourteenth last season.
However, the Turkish club claim that signing Shola Ameobi shows that they are ambitious for the coming season, releasing the following statement;
“We want to establish an ambitious team in the league this season and a strong team continues to strengthen by adding players.
“We have therefore tied Nigerian striker, Shola Ameobi, from one of the strongest clubs in England – Newcastle United, to us for one year.”
