Predicted Newcastle United Starting 11 vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa v Newcastle United
Saturday 23 August 12.45pm

After a spirited but ultimately pointless display against Manchester City, Newcastle United face a ‘winnable’ match this afternoon.

A 2-1 victory last season was a continuation of the good form at Villa Park in recent years, making it thirteen out of fifteen points over the last five seasons.

Hatem Ben Arfa was the architect of that excellent win last season but he’s one player we can be sure that won’t be on the pitch today.

Thankfully Benteke is missing for the home side and hopefully that will encourage Alan Pardew to attack and try to take the three points in style, rather than his usual safety first approach.

Most debate pre-match has centred around whether Siem De Jong will start and I hope and expect to see an attacking trio of Cabella, Riviere and De Jong bringing the three points home.

Another change that I believe is on the cards, and which would be the choice of most supporters, could see the more mobile Massadio Haidara replacing Paul Dummett.

The aim surely has to be to stretch an average Villa side who ground out a single goal victory on the opening day at Stoke.

This afternoon we’ll hopefully see Siem De Jong filling the creative boots of Yohan Cabaye.

Suggested starting 11;

Tim Krul

Daryl Janmaat

Fabricio Coloccini

Mike Williamson

Massadio Haidara

Jack Colback

Moussa Sissoko

Yoan Gouffran

Siem De Jong

Remy Cabella

Emmanuel Riviere

Match Betting – NUFC To Win 2/1 – De Jong Score First Goal 19/2 – Cabella To Score From Outside Box In Open Play 10/1
