Pardew ‘We Shouldn’t Read Too Much Into Our Goal Threat Today…’

Alan Pardew has claimed that people should read too much into Newcastle United’s goal threat, or rather the lack of it, against Manchester City.

The Newcastle manager saying that Emmanuel Riviere was ‘decent’ but that he still had Papiss Cisse and Siem De Jong to add to the mix.

Siem De Jong is an unknown quantity in terms of the Premier League but has a great scoring record as an attacking midfielder/second striker in Holland.

Alan Pardew sayig after yesterday’s defeat;

“I don’t think we should read too much into our goal threat today because we still have Papiss (Cisse) to come back.

“We still have Siem De Jong to join the group, and if we put that into the mix…I thought Manu (Riviere) was decent today.”

For me, it was up front where Newcastle looked weakest against Manchester City, Emmanuel Riviere looking out of his depth but obviously but obviously needing a run of games before we can properly judge.

I think the club would have done everything they could to sell Papiss Cisse this summer if he hadn’t picked up that kneecap injury.

Cisse is 29 and has been messed around persistently by Alan Pardew, often playing on the wing and totally ineffective.

While he had injury problems, only two goals (one a penalty) in the league all season tells its own story, Cisse playing 24 times with 9 of those as a sub.

I just hope that the failure to invest in a real quality centre-forward doesn’t undermine the whole team and waste the promise shown so far by players such as Cabella and De Jong.
