Pardew Responds To Gouffran’s Yohan Cabaye Concerns
Alan Pardew has claimed ho now has a number of players who can produce Yohan Cabaye type moments.
The second half of last season was an almost total flair-free zone as with Yohan Cabaye sold and Hatem Ben Arfa ignored, Newcastle huffed and puffed to the May finishing line.
At his pre-Manchester City press conference, Alan Pardew was asked by one of the journalists about the gap that Cabaye had left, specifically mentioning that Gouffran had earlier told journalists that Yohan Cabaye leaving was the reason for his own form taking a nosedive.
‘Talking to Yoan Gouffran earlier and for the first time he has explained his dip in form, scoring six goals before Boxing Day, then tailing off. He voluntarily said it was linked to Yohan Cabaye leaving – do you see that as the reason for his significant dip in form?’
“I think he had to play a lot of games because we didn’t have enough offensive options to change it and rest him.
“I think the psychological blow of Yohan Cabaye leaving and not replacing him was a blow to us all.
“That kind of great pass, especially for Gouff, was important.
“This year we haven’t got that problem as Siem De Jong is in the team who can make that pass, while Cabella’s already proven he can make that pass.
“So we now have players who can produce the sort of moments Cabaye did.”
