Newcastle Turn Down Bid For Cheick Tiote
Newcastle United have turned down a bid for Cheick Tiote.
The Press Association (which is about as reliable as you can get) have said that United turned down a bid from Lokomotiv Moscow several weeks ago.
The bid was allegedly described as ‘derisory’ by Newcastle United and said to be little more than the £3m United paid FC Twente four years ago. It is also claimed that despite press reports in the last twenty four hours, the Russian club have not been in touch since that original offer.
The pessimists amongst the Newcastle fanbase will see this having all the hallmarks of previous departures, offers described as insulting/too low or whatever, rather than this player is not up for sale.
The signal sent out that if the right money is offered then United will sell.
Cheick Tiote is now 28 and his transfer value would be almost guaranteed to fall in future seasons compared to being sold now.
I have seen some fans quoted as saying now we have Colback etc then losing Tiote wouldn’t be that big a blow.
To me though he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet and is arguably the best midfielder at the club.
