Newcastle Late Bid To Sign Michael Dawson Ahead Of Hull

While Steve Bruce claims to have a deal ‘in principle’ to sign Michael Dawson, The Times are reporting that there has been a last minute move by Newcastle United for the centre-back.

Dawson is surplus to requirements at Spurs, with the North London club signing Eric Dier in the summer, the new centre-back scoring two goals to add to the two clean sheets he’s helped Tottenham notch already.

In contrast, Dawson was an unused substitute against West Ham and on Sunday didn’t even make the bench for the four goal drubbing of Queens Park Rangers.

The reported Newcastle late interest may only be followed up if United can get either Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa or Steven Taylor out of St.James’ Park.

If Newcastle did make a concrete offer for Michael Dawson, it would surprise anybody who thinks United will only buy players with a resale value.

Dawson turns 31 in November but as the loan deal for Loic Remy showed, Mike Ashley will do anything that may help United stay in the Premier League, even if it is a more short-term financial proposition.

Despite Steve Bruce claiming he has a deal ‘in principle’, the transfer has dragged on for some time without any conclusion, leading to speculation that the player is waiting to see what other offers may materialise.
