Newcastle Complete Facundo Ferreyra Signing
Newcastle United have officially confirmed the signing of Facundo Ferreyra.
The twenty three year old Argentinian striker has signed on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk for an initial year’s loan, with an option of buying him at the end of the season.
While no figures have been mentioned by the club, earlier this week it was reported that a €2m (approx £1.6m) loan fee had been agreed, with the option of an €8m (approx £6.4m) permanent deal at the end of the loan period.
United had been previously linked with the player when he was playing for Velez Sarsfield in his native league, scoring 16 goals in only 22 league starts in the 2012/13 season. Shakhtar then paying around £7.5m for the then twenty two year old.
Ferreyra only scored 6 league goals for Donetsk last season but considering he only made 5 starts and 8 appearances from the bench, it is a decent return from limited opportunities.
The 23 year old helped Shakhtar to lift the Ukrainian league, making it two league titles in two season after doing the same with Velez Sarsfield in Argentina the previous season.
Newcastle report that the player has linked up with the rest of the squad in Germany, though the club have also released photos of the player posing at St.James’ Park so the deal has clearly been sorted before today.
