Newcastle Knocked Back With Latest Alexandre Lacazette Bid – Lyon Newspaper Reports
Local Lyon newspaper, Le Progres, has reported that Olympic Lyonnais President Jean-Michel Aulas has turned down a last minute bid for striker Alexandre Lacazette.
With just over 24 hours of the transfer window remaining it does appear that Newcastle have far too late realised that there is no proven golascoring quality striker at the club, unless Papiss Cisse somehow bounces back from injury and rapidly diminished form in front of goal.
Lyon have had a nightmare start to the season, losing two of their three Ligue One matches and falling at the first hurdle in the Europa League to Romanian club Astra.
However, President Aulas is adamant he won’t let the star striker leave and no wonder, after 22 goals last season in all competitions, Lacazette has scored two of the French club’s three league goals and one of the two that failed to see them progress in Europe.
To sell the forward at this late stage would be football suicide with next to no chance of bringing in a credible replacement.
Lacazette has been named in the starting eleven to face Metz away this afternoon and along with Remy, there appears no chance of this striker arriving at St.James’ Park in this transfer window.
The one position that all Newcastle fans knew needed to be filled with quality by United this summer and now this last minute scramble, which is surely going to be a case of too little, far too late.
