Les Ferdinand Believes Alan Pardew Could Be Living On Borrowed Time

7 years ago

Newcastle legend (Sir) Les Ferdinand believes that Alan Pardew could be living on borrowed time, having been handicapped in recent times by the owner’s refusal to let him have players brought in.

After losing Newcastle’s best three players since January, Mike Ashley has belatedly allowed signings to be brought in.

However, Sir Les thinks that if the signings don’t hit the ground running, then the pressure will pile on Alan Pardew.

Having exited Spurs himself, Les saw Tottenham go through two managers after spending massively last summer.

The former Spurs coach believe that the London club can bounce back with that extra year under the signings’ belts, but thinks the Newcaste manager could struggle to see the year out if it goes pear shaped.

This is what Les Ferdinand had to say to The Mail;

“The jury’s still out on the manager and signings, a good start is huge – but I have always had sympathy for Alan Pardew, I think he’s not been helped by the owner in the last couple of seasons.

“It is frustrating, he hasn’t had the money when he has needed it and they have struggled because of it.

“You look at players Newcastle have brought in and you would say it has been a very good summer, I can see why fans may be excited again – I’ve been to watch Siem De Jong play for Ajax and he is a top player but it will be interesting to see how that translates to the Premier League.

“I was at Spurs last season and we spent a lot of money and everybody expected us to challenge for the league but it didn’t happen that way. You will probably find Spurs come back better this season for those lads having had a year to settle.

“That could be the same for Newcastle but has Alan Pardew got that time…?”
