Dusseldorf Police Confirm 21 Arrests After Newcastle Fans Fighting With West Ham Supporters
This morning we brought you reports of Newcastle fans fighting with West Ham supporters in Dusseldorf on the eve of this afternoon’s kick-off of the Schalke tournament.
Now the Police in the German city have confirmed that 21 arrests were made, although what the split is between the two clubs is unknown.
Dusseldorf is only around 40 minutes away from where the matches are to be played in Gelsenkirchen and with its renowned bars and nightlife, an obvious place for fans to visit and stay.

With claims also that West Ham fans initiated the trouble after the two groups of fans had been drinking peacefully all Friday afternoon.
The Dusseldorf Police Spokesperson;
“There were three hundred English supporters in the city centre.
“Fans of both clubs met and first of all they had some beers on their own, then when they met the other club’s fans there were some verbal arguments, with a physical fight following.
“We put one hundred police officers in the city centre to calm things down and it calmed down very quickly, though we made twenty one short-term arrests.”
