Cheick Tiote Believes New Team Is As Good As Cabaye/Ba Side

Cheick Tiote has claimed that the all-changed squad at St. James’ Park has left Newcastle in a much stronger position than 12 months ago.

The Ivory Coast midfielder also believes that the new team can match the achievements of the 2011/12 season.

I think for me, the fact that Tiote is looking at top ten as a starting point suggests confidence in the United camp.

Whether that confidence proves misplaced we will find out soon.

What is for sure is that Newcastle United massively over-relied on Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Ba and Cisse for goals and creativity that season.

This time around you would have to think that for the team to be successful we’ll have to have similarly stellar contributions from Remy Cabella, Siem De Jong and any two strikers from Ferreyra, Riviere, Cisse and an extra potential signing.

This was Cheick Tiote’s take on the team when speaking to the Shields Gazette;

“I know some of the new boys like Manu Riviere and Remy Cabella from watching the French League.

“Also Siem De Jong – I have played against him so I know what he’s capable of.

“There could be more players but I think the squad looks better than last season, we are definitely stronger.

“I think it is possible that this squad can repeat the fifth place of two years ago, we have got the players and brought in real quality.

“The more games that we win, the better chance of finishing in the top five rather than top ten.”
