Has Anybody Seen Cheick Tiote?

Has anybody out there seen Cheick Tiote?

You know, that key midfield player who was one of the few to emerge with any credit from the shocking second half of last season.

Cheick of course was involved out in Brazil with the Ivory Coast, the Newcastle midfielder performing well until a shocking error against Greece helped his team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in terms of qualification to the last sixteen.

Tiote was given extra time off by the club following the World Cup but it has been a confused picture since.

While others such as Cabella and Sissoko, who were out in Brazil longer, have been getting some pitch time in the pre season friendlies, Cheick Tiote still hasn’t been involved.

With the tight hold on information released to the press, the club website has made no mention of any potential problem or otherwise, while partners such as Sky and The Sun (allegedly) haven’t posed the question, and the local newspapers that still get access simply go with what they’re fed.

Tiote was due to join up with the squad in New Zealand but never arrived after previously being announced as a late addition, with nothing from the club offered as an explanation when he then didn’t make the trip.

The Newcastle midfielder then went over to Germany with the rest of the players and was named on the subs bench against Malaga but then didn’t make an appearance despite ten changes during the ninety minutes.

Finally, against Schalke, Tiote again didn’t start the match but then wasn’t even named on the bench, with all the rest of the squad sitting there apart from him and Daryl Janmaat.

While Newcastle may well have signed some decent players this summer, the thought of not having Cheick Tiote sat in front of the back four against Manchester City isn’t very reassuring.

The way that Malaga took the United defence apart; I have a feeling they wouldn’t have had it half as easy with Tiote to contend with.

All eyes on tonight at Huddersfield to see if our missing action man manages an appearance, or else the real conspiracy theories will start.

*** Apologies! It has jutst been pointed out to me that Cheick Tiote appeared at Sheffield’s equivalent (to me) of the Bermuda Triangle, playing the first hour against Wednesday last week. Still worrying that he wasn’t involved over the weekend in Germany but hopefully he might be seen tonight at Huddersfield with rumours of a strong team being put out by Pardew.
