Alan Pardew Says Newcastle Paying The Price Simply For Being Too Honest

7 years ago

Alan Pardew has claimed that he and Newcastle United are simply paying the price of being too honest.

Newcastle’s repeated statements that Cups are not a priority, are simply what all the other clubs really think, according to the Newcastle manager.

Newcastle United atrocious record in The Cups under Mike Ashley, backs up many fans’ belief that the Newcastle owner is quite happy to see United to go out of the knockout competitions as soon as possible.

Certainly since Alan Pardew became manager, he has repeatedly put out weakened teams that haven’t been up to the job, making the manager’s words worthless when it comes to each new season and despite the team selection telling us otherwise, Pardew insists he is desperate for Cup success.

NUFC have gone to ridiculous and often embarrassing lengths to justify not trying in the Cups, even producing some flawed and dubious ‘evidence’ as to how competing in the Cups can damage your club.

This is what the Newcastle manager has had to say ahead of Gillingham on Tuesday night;

“One of biggest disappointments last year was Cardiff when we should have won in the FA Cup, that’s our last Cup game and so we need to get a win, so I will probably take the same twenty players (that were at Villa) to Gillingham.

“Perhaps at board level we say what other boards don’t say, in that the Premier League is the be all and end all because of the TV money, you can’t hide from that.

“We are not hiding from that, we have actually said it, perhaps to our detriment but we’ve said it, that’s our priority.

“…but of course we want to win a cup, our fans want to win a cup.”
