Alan Pardew ‘Obertan’s Not A Crowd Favourite But He Does A Great Job At Times’

When Gabriel Obertan scored that very decent (no) consolation goal against Malaga, I laughed out loud.

The reason being that I then just couldn’t wait to hear what Alan Pardew would have to say about the hapless winger.

With the shocking state of United’s performance overall, it was guaranteed that the manager would be wanting to make something more out of Obertan’s contribution that the reality – he was his usual rubbish self the rest of the time.

Sure enough, just like after the midweek friendly when Pardew bizarrely claimed Obertan was the best player on the pitch to the bemusement of all of us who were there, once again the Newcastle manager doesn’t disappoint.

Speaking to the official club TV channel, Pardew had this to say;

“He had a lot of troubles with injury last year and he has had a smooth run pre-season, he has been effective.

“He is not one of the crowd’s favourites, he does a great job for us at times.

“When we went ten games unbeaten three years ago he was in that team.

“He is pushing like that this time and we will see where it goes.”

Alan Pardew does just literally make it up as he goes along, Obertan wasn’t even on the plane to New Zealand despite players like Vuckic who have clearly got zero future at Newcastle making the trip/making up the numbers.

If he wants to go back three years then why not buy Simpson back as he was a key part of the defence back then, surely better than the shambles we saw yesterday and much if last season.

Or even better, what about that player who wasn’t too bad either that season, think he was called…Hatem Ben Arfa – wonder whatever happened to him?
