Alan Pardew ‘Jack Colback Can Pass It Like Cabaye’
Never one to be scared of going over the top, Alan Pardew has now claimed that Jack Colback’s passing range is a bit like Yohan Cabaye’s…
The Newcastle United manager was responding to news that Colback had been called up into the England squad for the first time.
“The beauty is that it depends on the opposition, you can pencil him (Jack Colback) in to do a number of roles.
“If you are the dominant force then he might take a more defensive position because his passing range is fantastic, a bit like Yohan Cabaye’s.
“He can also carry a threat when teams are more assertive – for us we can offer him a more forward role where he can use his energy.
“He has got just a great all round ability – I am not sure where England will have plans for him but what I do know, is number four or number either, he can do either of those quite comfortably.”
“He is our player but of course six months ago he was at Sunderland so they have to take some credit as well…”
I can guarantee that we would have been laughing our heads off if Jack Colback had been included in England’s squad for Brazil.
Having seen him in the flesh now as one of us, he has looked a canny player but with limitations, and nothing like what Pardew is trying to sell (oops, maybe not the best of words to use with Pardew/Ashley!) him as.
Good for him that he’s worked hard and got into the squad, but even with England’s very average squad, we all know that like a few other players he is there pretty much to just make up the numbers.
Pardew and Ashley will have done an unbelievable job if they have convinced/hoodwinked any Newcastle fans that Colback is any kind of replacement for Yohan Cabaye.
The ex-Sunderland player is a decent steady signing who was bargain priced (nowt!) but he is not an international quality playmaker…or at least not yet!
