Alan Pardew ‘I Always Give Mike Ashley My Honesty And He Listens’
Alan Pardew has once again been reading from his Mike Ashley script…sorry, giving an honest appraisal of their dream relationship.
The Newcastle manager claiming that his relationship with the NUFC owner, is one you can only hope for as a Premier League manager and he is very lucky to have it.
“When I signed the long contract, I think myself and Mike (Ashley) knew there would be up times for me and up times for him.
“This time around it is an up time for me and he has stood by me and has armed me again.
“One thing I can always give him is an honesty about where we are and he listened to that honesty.
“Therefore that is why we have so many players and we needed them.
“That is the kind of relationship you can only hope for as a Premier League manager and I’m lucky enough to have it – now I hope I can repay him.”
So when Newcastle finished fifth in 2011/12 and Alan Pardew was saying we were going to buy a host of players (including a commanding centre-back who’d also score goals, something we are still desperate for two years later!), did Mike Ashley have a sudden hearing defect?
The Newcastle owner instead implementing a mini clearout that included selling (England) goalkeeper Fraser Forster for a couple of million, to help fund the only first team squad transfer that summer of Vurnon Anita.
How much notice Ashley takes of Alan Pardew is something we can all guess at but even the Newcastle owner couldn’t fail to see what a dismal state he’d reduced the Newcastle squad to, with a failure to reinvest the money coming in.
