St.Etienne Approach Newcastle For Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
St.Etienne have approached Newcastle United to enquire about Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
The story has been broken by France Football and now picked up in England by the Chronicle amongst others.
There are no further details as to on what basis the French club are looking to take the defender on, though other French clubs such as Lyon and Bordeaux have previously been reported to be scared off by Newcastle’s expectation of at least £6m plus having to match the wages, with United unwilling to consider a loan option.
It is likely that St.Etienne would at the very least be trying to take Mapou on a ‘try before you buy’ basis, though it clearly looks as though Alan Pardew is desperate to get a transfer fee in now, to try and then help enable much needed players to be brought in elsewhere.
I think it is pretty obvious that the plan is to move on Mapou without a replacement and rely on Coloccini, Taylor and Williamson, with no doubt a line being spun that this will then enable the likes of Curtis Good to move up the food chain and get some opportunities.
The fact that after Fabricio Coloccini, Mapou is United’s highest paid defender, will have also played a key part in the decision to try and shift him, rather than say Steven Taylor.
