Sega Coulibaly Now Linked With Newcastle Move

While recruitment of instant first team players seems to be going nowhere at the moment, the latest young player Newcastle United are linked with is Rennes defender Sega Coulibaly.

Reports from the continent state that Steve Nickson, Newcastle’s head of academy recruitment, has watched Coulibaly a number of times.

Only turning 18 last month (June), Coulibaly made eleven appearances for Rennes reserve team last season and the French club are keen to keep him as he is seen as a bright prospect.

The young defender has also played six times for the France Under 17 team and scored two goals.

However, as well as Newcastle’s claimed interest, there is also said to be a number of other clubs including Liverpool, Fiorentina and Sevilla keeping an eye on his development.

Newcastle appear to still be keen on trying to recruit foreign young players, despite Alan Pardew and others within the club stating that they wanted to see a bigger homegrown presence at St.James’ Park – only four weeks ago Steve Nickson was reported to have been scouting[intlink id=”43547″ type=”post”] PSG\’s midfield youngster Kingsley Coman[/intlink].

Only this past weekend Alan Pardew wrote in the Independent On Sunday about the problems and the expense in trying to sign British senior players, maybe this is also a problem when trying to compete for younger prospects.
