Pardew Dedicates Tournament Win To John and Liam
Alan Pardew has dedicated the tournament win in New Zealand to John and Liam, the two Newcastle fans who were amongst the victims of the plane crash tragedy in the Ukraine.
United defeated Wellington Phoenix 1-0 on Saturday to leave them with two wins, West Ham two defeats and Sydney FC and the hosts a win each.
Pardew’s dedication follows on from Barry Sweeney (Liam’s father) revealing that as well as the manager’s kind words, the family had also received a [intlink id=”45383″ type=”post”]heartfelt personal letter from Alan Shearer[/intlink].
This is what Alan Pardew has said to the official club website today;
“It is fitting that we won this tournament for John and Liam, we are dedicating this win to the families.
“We did this in their memory.”
The United manager also thanking the New Zealand public for their support during the trip down under;
“The support, welcome and the enthusiasm from the people of New Zealand had been fantastic and hopefully we can replicate that for the first game of the Premier League season against Manchester City at St.James’ Park.
“It really helps the team and I thank the people over here for the support, it has been brilliant.”
