Newcastle United have officially confirmed that Mathieu Debuchy has now left Newcastle United for Arsenal.

While United haven’t attached a price tag to the signing, the Press Association have reported that they understand that the figure is £12m.

This was Newcastle United’s brief farewell notice for Debuchy;

‘Newcastle United right-back Mathieu Debuchy has completed his transfer to Arsenal for an undisclosed fee.

Debuchy 28, who turns 29 at the end of this month, signed for United from Lille in January 2013 and made his Newcastle debut against Norwich on 12 January 2013, going on to make 14 appearances that season.  In total he played 43 Premier League games for Newcastle, scoring once, as well as making three appearances in the League Cup.

Mathieu represented France in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, helping his side to a quarter final berth before they were beaten by eventual winners Germany.

The club wishes to place on record its thanks to Mathieu for his efforts during his time at Newcastle.  He leaves with all our best wishes for his future at Arsenal.’

While at the other end of the country, Debuchy said this to Arsenal.com;

“I am very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it is one of the biggest clubs in the whole world.”
