‘Obertan Was Best Player On The Pitch’ – Alan Pardew
Alan Pardew has claimed that Gabriel Obertan was the ‘best player on the pitch’ last night at Hillsborough.
The winger laying on the goal for Ayoze Perez who finished coolly.
However, hearing Alan Pardew going overboard about Squidward always makes me a worried man.
While he wasn’t as useless as normal, Obertan wasn’t exactly great against a poor Sheffield Wednesday side and I dread now hearing about how well the Frenchman is doing in training and pushing again for a place in the team…help!
Biggest hope is that at least Obertan has got a game under his belt and didn’t look terrible against lower league opposition, at least giving the club a possible chance of shifting him out on loan, with still two years left of his ridiculously long contract.
Speaking to NUFC TV, Alan Pardew said;
“When you are getting off a plane late on Monday after a thirty six hour flight, it is a great effort.
“We had a couple of fresh ones, Cheick (Tiote) and Obertan, and that showed because they were probably two of the better players, Obertan for sure was the best player on pitch.
“To win it one nil with the team we had out was outstanding.
“We have got two games at the weekend and I couldn’t afford to risk our bigger players on the back of that really long flight, so hats off to the ones who played and coped with the flight a little bit better – Mapou (Yanga-Mbiwa) and Vurnon (Anita) in particular.”
