Newcastle United In Line For £2m Fraser Forster Sell-On Bonus
With his business empire making money at an ever increasing rate, life is sweet for Mike Ashleym including at Newcastle United.
While it will only be when the season kicks off we’ll find out properly as to their ability, this summer’s signings have convinced many fans that Newcastle have had a credible transfer window so far. What is even better for Mike Ashley is that the fees received for Debuchy and Cabaye still leave him out in front in transfer dealing after taking the six signings into account.
Southampton have been actively chasing the signature of Fraser Forster and having had one offer turned down that was described as ‘derisory’ by Celtic, they are said to be ready to come back with an acceptable bid which could be as high as £10m.
Playing a starring role both domestically and in Europe for Celtic, Forster was in Brazil as part of the England set-up, leaving the fee of around £2m Newcastle received only two years ago look pretty feeble.
Speculation as to whether there was a sell-on clause inserted when Celtic bought the goalkeeper have occasionally circulated and now it is widely reported that Newcastle would be in line to receive 25% of any profit the Scottish club make on any deal for Fraser Forster.
I still think that even if Newcastle end up making £4m it will still be on the low side for a Geordie keeper who looks to have so much potential, though at least good to see that common sense was used and a sell-on clause insisted on.
