Newcastle United Ask To Keep It Clean When They Play Wellington Phoenix
Following a number of dodgy tackles flying in when Wellington Phoenix played West Ham, Alan Pardew has asked for a bit of restraint from the home based players when the teams meet on Saturday.
Amongst the challenges in question was one by Wellington’s Louis Fenton that left West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate on crutches after the match, the midfielder missing the Hammers’ game with Sydney FC tomorrow.

“It is very important for us both that we start the season with our best players.
“We will still be committed to win and sometimes challenges can look worse than they are…but I noticed a couple of challenges (Wellington Phoenix v West Ham) that were probably not suitable for pre season, so I hope we don’t see those.”
While even Wellington head coach Ernie Meeick admitted;
“In an A-League game he probably would not have stayed on but it was youthful enthusiasm. It wasn’t deliberate but Sam (Allardyce) was right to be critical.
“We want to win the ball and we want to tackle hard, but we have got to be respectful of these boys who have a Premier League season ahead of them.”
