Newcastle Player Banished To Reserves Picks Up Goal Of The Season Award
Towards the end of the last campaign, Newcastle United asked fans to vote for their goal of the season.
Ten goals were selected from various levels of the club, including FA Youth Cup and Under 21s/Reserves, as well as the first team.
The result in reverse order;
The goal that finished third was Yohan Cabaye’s great long range effort that opened the scoring against Liverpool in the 2-2 draw at St.James’ Park.
In second place, fans selected Moussa Sissoko’s cracker which won the home game against West Brom in November.
While the winner was…Gael Bigirimana.
Yes, that Gael Bigirimana, who was deemed not worthy of a minute of Premier League pitch time throughout the whole of last season by Alan Pardew, despite featuring 25 times in the team the previous season (all competitions). The midfielder’s only selection in basically a reserve team that faced Morecambe in the League Cup last season.
Bigi won his goal of the season award for a forty yard screamer into the top corner from 40 yards against West Brom reserves/under 21s.
So the player who scores the official Newcastle United goal of the season is totally ignored by his manager and doesn’t even get on the pitch in the Premier League, especially poor when you consider how shocking the team were in the second half of the season.
Anyway congratulations to Gael Bigirimana who was handed his award today (see below).
