Newcastle Linked With Two Manchester United Cast-Offs

With less than six weeks to go until the Premier League kicks off again, Newcastle United have been linked with two Manchester United cast-offs.

With the need for creativity and goals at Newcastle United looking more desperate by the day, new names are being added by the hour.

While the trend is to expect any new arrivals to be from abroad, there still remains the chance that Mike Ashley will do a deal these days for anybody where the money side of things adds up. The short-term successful loan of Loic Remy proved that there is no rigid system now in place on transfers, the Newcastle owner prepared to pay massive wages and a £2m loan fee as it helped United through another Premier League season.

The two Manchester United players being linked with Newcastle this weekend are Wilfried Zaha and Ashley Young.

The claimed interest in 21 year old Zaha is not a new story but after not making a single Premier league start for Manchester United last season, it is hard to see a future for the winger at Old Trafford with new manager Louis Van Gaal looking to really up the ante in terms of the quality of player available.

The option to cash in for around the £7m figure that is speculated, is likely to make sense to the new manager as he looks to generate extra cash for his incoming targets.

The other player claimed to be in Newcastle’s sights is Ashley Young, another player who in the past has been linked with United.

Young turns 29 on Wednesday and only made 13 Premier League starts last season, which as a consequence helped make Roy Hodgson’s decision not to take him to Brazil.

While his diving is legendary, Ashley Young is a player who would add creativity and a threat to a Newcastle line-up that currently lacks both. With two years left on his contract and little chance of making the first team at Old Trafford next season, Manchester United will surely look to get him off the wage bill.

If Mike Ashley is prepared to pay the wages then any fee would surely fall within what the Newcastle owner is prepared to pay these days. Reality has to hit home sometime and creativity/goals don’t come cheap.

With both players of course there is another option and one that no doubt would appeal very much to Ashley. Loan deals appear sure to be part of Newcastle’s transfer market ‘strategy’ this summer and short-term deals to get him another Premier League season payout will surely appeal.
