Newcastle Linked With Emmanuel Riviere Transfer Again

Newcastle United have once again been linked with Emmanuel Riviere according to reports in France, including LeSport10, having previously been reported to be be interested back in April.

The 24 year old Monaco forward has enjoyed his best ever season in front of goal with 13 goals in all competitions, but since the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov midway through the year, he found a place in the team hard to come by.

The right footed striker was stuck on the bench and didn’t made a start after February until getting three more starting line-ups once PSG had secured the Ligue 1 title ahead of Monaco.

As a 21 year old, Riviere moved for £5m from St.Etienne to Toulouse and played alongside Moussa Sissoko.

However, after struggling for goals, the forward left in the same January (2013) transfer window as Sissoko’s move to Tyneside.

The fee was a knockdown £3.5m and Riviere joined Monaco where he helped ensure they regained their promotion back to Ligue 1.

He’s French (Under 21 international) and out of favour at his club so no doubt those are two things that many fans would imagine put this kind of signing into Mike Ashley’s ball park.

However, a touted £8m price tag looks a bit optimistic considering this past season was the first he’d scored double figures (10) in a league season and his overall record is a goal every four matches.

A bit like Remy, Riviere can play out wide as well as through the middle so he has got versatility, but he’s not the out and out and out goalscorer that is surely the biggest priority for those inside St.James’ Park. West Brom and Stoke are also mentioned as interested parties, as English clubs jockey to try and bring in the essential goals needed for next season.
