Newcastle Knock Back Rod Fanni Transfer
With it seemingly only a matter of time before [intlink id=”44669″ type=”post”]Mathieu Debuchy is unveiled[/intlink] as Arsenal’s latest signing, it is reported in France that Newcastle have been offered Rod Fanni as an instant replacement.
Marseille are looking to offload the thirty two year old from their wage bill and Newcastle are one of the clubs they are understood to have approached, though the answer from United was no, at least for the time being.
The Frenchman has a handful of international caps and moved from Rennes to Marseille in 2010 for just over £3m.
Thigh and groin injuries affected him last season, with the right-back starting 21 Ligue1 matches and also playing four times in the Champions League, all of which Marseille lost.
Any move for a player such as Rod Fanni by Newcastle may be a game of wait and see, with a loan deal a possibility to suit both sides.
I expect Newcastle to have at least a couple of loan players by the time September comes around but which positions they fill, will very likely to be decided which other players, if any, are signed on permanent deals.
At least one bright spot if Newcastle did make a move for the Marseille right-back, is that it would stimulate the minds of local headline writers…
