Montpellier Manager Says Newcastle Remy Cabella Transfer Is Now 10% From Over The Line
Yesterday brought news from Montpellier Chief executive who stated that they had agreed a [intlink id=”44789″ type=”post”]deal with Newcastle for Remy Cabella[/intlink].
Now the French club’s manager, Rolland Courbis, the whole deal will complete when it edges the other 10% over the line.
“This is not a done deal yet. Talks are continuing about the usual bonuses, but I am not worrying about any problems with the eventual outcome.
Laurent and Louis (Nicollin, son and father, and owners of Montpellier) were right to say no to the first offer which was upsetting, but we are getting close, it is 90% completed, though not 100% yet.”
Good to hear that there looks to be no last minute problems on the horizon, though interesting to hear further confirmation that Newcastle tried to steal Montpellier’s star asset with what was previously described as an ‘insulting offer’.
How close the club came to blowing this deal we will never know.
However, it is good to see that there is now some acceptance of the real world at St.James’ Park, with the reported agreed transfer fee said to be around £12m/£13m, which is double the original stated offer of £6.5m
In the past, it was said that Mike Ashley was insisting on a take it or leave it policy on Newcastle’s first offer.
That approach is totally unrealistic, especially when you are trying to bring in the players who can create and score goals, it is only natural that clubs will make sure they get the very best price.
Let’s hope Newcastle now continue this more eyes open policy when it comes to bringing in two quality goalscorers.
