Mathieu Debuchy Arsenal Transfer Claimed As Done Deal

As Newcastle United make their first major purchase of the summer in Ajax midfielder Siem De Jong, it is also claimed that Mathieu Debuchy is heading for the exit door with a deal already in place.

It is reported that the Newcastle full-back has agreed a deal with Arsenal with Newcastle receiving £12m for his services.

However, the story which has been broken by the Daily Star says that official confirmation will be kept until after Mathieu Debuchy’s involvement at the World Cup has ended.

Whether things have progressed quite as far as the Daily Star claim is open to conjecture but certainly all the signs haven’t been positive for Newcastle fans.

Debuchy himself quoted as saying he was missing Champions League football and that he’d decide after the World Cup about his future, while Newcastle United have released via friendly journalists that they would let him go for £12m.

For Newcastle fans, the hope must be that a few more credible signings similar to Siem De Jong can be quickly made, potentially convincing Debuchy and the few other real quality players that Newcastle still possess, that the football club could just be on an upward curve again.

At the minute the jury’s out and still a massive amount of work needs to happen in the transfer market before supporters’ glasses, and Mathieu Debuchy’s, are half full.
