Lone Fan Greets Newcastle’s Arrival In Wellington and Cheick Tiote Stays At Home

The second leg of Newcastle United is now in progress with the squad touching down in Wellington.

Players were greeted at the airport by a single fan, Newcastle United supporter Doug Haghey from Perth in Australia had the squad to himself after they touched down.

The absence of any crowds suggests the long-term benefits of this tour will be similarly low key, in what is a football backwater, though the players and officials are doing their best and have an open training session planned at Newton Park.

The forty four strong United party of players and support staff arrived on the back of a professional and accomplished four goal demolition of Sydney FC.

However, one face missing is Cheick Tiote, who according to the local press in New Zealand has failed to travel and join up with the rest of the squad as previously planned – for reasons unknown and no comment from the club as yet.
