What We Learnt From Newcastle’s Return For Pre Season Training
Newcastle United’s first team squad have returned for pre season training and the club were keen to promote the fact, especially when it came to posting photos of new signings Siem De Jong, Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback on the club’s flickr account.
What else did we learn though from the images released?
Contrary to previous claims, Mehdi Abeid has not signed permanently for Panathinaikos and is training with the rest of the squad.
Good to see Ryan Taylor at long last back in full training with the other players, though no doubt as things move on to practice matches we’ll find out a lot more as to his progress and hopefully he won’t break down again.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa looks like he has really worked on his fitness over the summer break and to have slimmed right back down to the kind of shape he was in when he first arrived at Newcastle.
Hatem Ben Arfa (wasn’t pictured at training on Monday but photos have been posted in recent days) has not slimmed down over the summer break as yet from the condition he ended up in last season.
Newcastle haven’t got a very big squad.
Despite only missing the handful of players who were out at the World Cup plus one or two others, Newcastle would have struggled to finish Monday’s training session with a five a side match of credible first team possibilities.
Jack Colback needs to keep out of the sun.
