Joel Campbell To Newcastle Transfer Link

6 years ago

Newcastle United have today been linked with taking Joel Campbell on loan next season.

The Costa Rica striker has been one of the hits of the World Cup and later today he and his teammates face Holland, with a real chance of progression to the last four, a real fairytale for a country with such a small population.

Campell has only scored the one goal which came against Uruguay, but he has proved a real handful for defences as he’s played a lone front role for the overachievers in Brazil.

However, on the club front, the Mail are reporting that Arsene Wenger wants to see Joel Campbell develop further by loaning him out to a Premier League club, rather than returning to Olympiakos where he was such a success last season.

Newcastle are named along with Everton, West Ham and Southampton as having expressed their interest in taking the striker on loan this coming season.

United were actually linked with Campbell back in March, when there was talk of a potential permanent move to either Newcastle or Swansea.

With Swansea now having Gomis, Bony and Michu currently to call upon, it is clear they don’t currently need an extra striker, in Newcastle’s case though it is the exact opposite with fans desperate to see some goals added to the squad.

It would appear though that with Campbell’s progress in recent months any deal would only be a temporary one with Wenger seeing long-term prospects for the player at the Emirates.

Campbell has been at the Emirates for two and a half years after moving from Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa, however he has been almost permanently out on loan ever since.

The striker won the Greek domestic league with Olympiakos and also excelled in the Champions League, narrowly going out to Manchester United with Campbell starting both legs of that tie.

A versatile striker who can also play wide, back in March,the now twenty two year old Campbell said about his future;

I don’t know what will happen with Arsenal, I have two years left of my contract and they’ll decide what will happen.”
