Daryl Janmaat Newcastle Medical Put Back Due To Illness
A fee of £6m has been agreed between Newcastle and Feyenoord for the services of Daryl Janmaat, according to widespread reports today.
According to the Dutch daily newspaper, Algemeen Dagblad, the right-back was scheduled to arrive in Newcastle on today to complete his medical but it had to be put back due to illness.
However, it is not believed to be anything serious and Janmaat is now expected on Tyneside tomorrow (Tuesday) to go through the medical and the other formalities, before putting pen to paper on a similar long-term length deal as Siem De Jong and Remy Cabella.
Those last two signings getting six years, in a manner of speaking…
Daryl Janmaat turns 25 later this month and started the first three matches in the World Cup for Holland and came on as a sub against both Argentina and then Brazil in Saturday’s third place play-off.
‘Illness’ could be just another term for the player being knackered after a hectic summer, which would understandably explain why he needed an extra day to make the visit to Newcastle.
Once the Janmaat deal is finalised, it is expected to then spark the move of Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal, which has been apparently held up until the replacement was signed.
