Claims That Newcastle Will Make Five Signings Before Season Starts
With just over five weeks until the Premier League season kicks off, there have been claims that Newcastle are confident of bringing in five new signings before teh first match against Manchester City.
Writing in the Chronicle, Mark Douglas claims that his information is that Newcastle will shortly bank £10m from the Debuchy deal and banking that cash will then help spark a spending spree by United.
The positions claimed to be getting filled are right-back two strikers and two midfielders.
While there is no reasoning put forward as to why next to nothing has happened with transfers so far, Mark Douglas claims that United’s hitlist for the soon to be vacant full-back position are Daryl Janmaat, Ricardo Van Rhijn and Serge Aurier.
The Chronicle man is either flying a very big kite or believes his information to be plausible.
The fact he names three possible candidates for that right-back spot, weakens the argument somewhat. As with deals taking so long to sort these days, you’d think for anything to happen in the near future then Newcastle would have needed to progress a long way down the line already on any potential transfers.
With various small milestones rapidly approaching, such as the first friendly in six days time and flying off to New Zealand a few days after that, the idea of five credible signings being made in the next few weeks takes some believing.
Here’s hoping Mark Douglas isn’t flying a very big kite.
