Carlos Bacca Now Linked With Newcastle Transfer

The latest name to be added to Newcastle United’s striker pursuit is Carlos Bacca.

The Columbian forward turns 28 in September and has made great strides since a belated move to Europe.

After his first full season at Bruges where he scored 28 goals (25 in the league) after moving from domestic football in Columbia, Sevilla snapped him up 12 months ago for £5.5m.

The challenge of La Liga wasn’t a step too far and Bacca scored 14 times to help his new club into fifth place in the table.

However, the Columbian striker was a key player in Sevilla’s successful Europa League campaign, scoring 7 times in the run to the final.

That game finished goalless but Carlos Bacca was one of the successful penalty takers in the shoot-out, with Sevilla eventually defeating Benfica to lift the trophy.

Currently over in Brazil, Bacca has been limited to sitting on the bench but that is no disgrace after seeing the strike power Columbia have available.

No potential deal will be completed until after Columbia’s involvement is at an end and tonight they play Brazil at 9pm UK time.

A speculated fee of up to £15m could also be a sticking point, though realistically around £10m should land Bacca if Sevilla decide (or are persuaded by the right offer) to sell.
