Alan Pardew believes that Newcastle United were ‘Terrific’ in the first half of their[intlink id=”44948″ type=”post”] 2-1 defeat by Oldham Athletic[/intlink].

The Newcastle manager blaming second half changes for the drop in standard in the second half, after United had gone in a goal up at the interval.

In the second period Oldham looked much the better team and this was despite the home side giving pitch time to five triallists, including Willy Gros who scored the winner.

While Pardew blamed the disruption of changing things in the second half, it didn’t do Oldham any harm as they made a massive eight changes on the hour mark and then turned a one goal deficit into a 2-1 win.

Alan Pardew talking to the Shields Gazette;

“A good workout and the pitch was excellent.

“We were terrific first-half but not so good in the second, we made a few changes that didn’t work for us.

“We are going to have 4 or 5 key (World Cup) players away for a few weeks and so it was a chnce for the young players.

 “Oldham are probably a couple of weeks ahead of us and that probably showed, especially when our second string came on.

“I was pleased with what I saw, all our senior boys played well.
