Alan Pardew Names Two Vice-Captains
Writing today in his national newspaper column, Alan Pardew has revealed he has chose his vice-captain, actually make that vice-captains.
Confirming that Fabricio Coloccini was continuing as Captain, the Newcastle manager has also decided to name two players as vice-captains.
A bit like you get with some ‘quirky’ grooms choosing half their mates to be ‘best men’, Pardew has named both Siem De Jong and Cheick Tiote to hold the position jointly, with the manager giving the following reasoning in the Independent on Sunday;
“At Newcastle I have great faith in Fabricio Coloccini, but we’ve also just announced last week two official vice-captains in Cheick Tiote and Siem De Jong, who was captain at Ajax, which gives us three players from different areas of the pitch to take that bit of extra responsibility.
“Coloccini is a relatively quiet lad who leads by example and presence and his calmness on the ball.
“The most vocal guy doesn’t necessarily mean the best leader, although previously we had Kevin Nolan, who was very vocal in the dressing room and a great organiser of the group.”
