Alan Pardew – A Job Well Done On And Off The Pitch
Alan Pardew was reflecting on a job well done after Newcastle United v Sydney FC ended in a four goal stroll for United.
The Newcastle manager felt that things had gone well both on and off the pitch, with tributes paid to Liam Sweeney and John Alder, making the match a poignant occasion.
“We started with a very strong side, particularly in memory of Liam and John, which I thought was only right.
“It was important to pay our respects as Liam and John were not just ordinary fans, they were a little bit special in their support.
“They were coming all the way to New Zealand to watch us and we had to make sure that their memory was in this stadium.
“Nice to see all the new boys contribute in a really positive way, it is obvious we’ve more offensive options now with the arrival of Siem, Riviere and Ayoze.
“All three were terrific and Jack’s energy in midfield was great, that really got us playing on the front foot.
“It was a good night on the pitch and we can be proud of how we conducted ourselves off it too.”
The truth obviously is that we still have little idea of how good, or not, the new players are. Just like the defeat against Oldham last week was more or less meaningless, this four goal win came against a team who looked really poor and abysmal defending helped gift United the first three goals. Newcastle then taking their foot off the gas and making numerous substitutions before Adam Armstrong scored a very good goal in the closing minutes.
