Alan Pardew ‘I’m Really Pleased We’ve Managed To Get A Striker Early’
Alan Pardew has provoked debate (not for the first time) amongst Newcastle fans with his comments on new signing Siem De Jong.
Interviewed on the club’s official tv channel, the Newcastle manager saying how pleased he is to have brought a striker in so early in the transfer window.
While anybody who has seen De Jong play will realise he was, never going to be a like for like swap for De Jong, the general perception was that the Dutch international would be seen as more of an attacking midfielder/playmaker.
With Pardew seemingly wanting to make clear that he sees De Jong as a striker, it throws up a number of questions, such as is the manager telling us that this may be the only striker coming into the club before the season starts and/or, is Alan Pardew saying that this means there is still a glaring gap that needs filling in terms of a playmaker?
This is what the Newcastle manager has been having to say today;
“I’m really pleased we’ve managed to get a striker early, and in particular, a striker of Siem’s type.
“We need to bed him in a little bit about how we are going to play, find out the best route for him and for us.
“Therefore not to do it a week before the season starts, or even after the first game.
“It is great for us, it gives us a real kind of intelligence that we can go straight into the season with.”
