Alan Pardew Admits Young Players Will Face Sheffield Wednesday

Newcastle United’s visit to Hillsborough is billed as a first team friendly but fans expecting to see household names could be disappointed.

In the usual way of announcing this kind of bad news to supporters who have already bought tickets, on the eve of the match Alan Pardew has said, “…tomorrow will be a chance for some of the younger lads in the squad.”

The match kicks off at 7.45pm tomorrow night and Sheffield Wednesday have just announced that away fans will be able to pay on the night into the Newcastle section.

While the excuse is valid that the players have just returned from their trip to New Zealand, surely the right course of action was to make it clear from the outset to everybody that the Sheffield Wednesday match wouldn’t feature senior players.

Alan Pardew telling the official club website;

“Having just got back from New Zealand, some of the lads need a bit of a rest so tomorrow will be a chance for some of the younger lads in the squad.

“We will be looking for a result like the two we got on the tour and a good performance as well, hopefully some of the lads can perform well and give us something to think about.”

Whether the Newcastle starting eleven would be described as a ‘reserve’ team will very much depend on who is describing it.
