Yannick Bolasie Now Transfer Target For Newcastle

Yannick Bolasie is now said to be on Newcastle United’s wish list this summer.

The Crystal Palace winger only has one year left on his contract so the South London club may be forced to cash in or risk losing him for nothing on a year’s time.

Bolasie was a key part of Palace’s revival under Tony Pulis last season and his direct running at defenders caught the eye, as well as a few tricks up his sleeve to beat his man.

I was surprised though to find that the 25 year old didn’t score a single goal last season and indeed hadn’t managed many throughout his career, even though all but last season has been played in the lower divisions.

Bolasie has only managed 5 goals in 83 Championship matches and his best season goals-wise was 7 in a season for Plymouth in League One.

Last year the winger became a full international for Congo and has now got three caps.

The positive for Mike Ashley is that the media reports claim he is available for no more than £3m so could be seen as a bargain buy to prop up the threadbare Newcastle squad.

If United do follow up their interest though, then it would appear to be that they’d be adding yet another player who’d be unlikely to bring many goals, though at least his direct style and pace would give Newcastle something the squad currently doesn’t have.
