The Worst Place For Any Newcastle Fan To Live?

Where would you hate to live as a Newcastle fan?

I’m guessing many of you would automatically say ‘Sunderland’ but we might have found a live contender.

Some 260 miles away from Tyneside a new housing development asked local residents for their suggestions as to what to call it.

The winner and name of the new development is…Radford Gardens.

Any Newcastle fan of a certain age will be bristling when they hear the name Ronnie Radford for what must seem like the millionth time since that grim day in 1972 when Hereford knocked Newcastle out of the FA Cup. Radford scoring a raker against Newcastle to equalise before Ricky George scored the winner.

The fact the cameras were there to capture the moment have of course kept the story at the forefront of FA Cup third round day every single bloody year.

I have even just read that since 2011 the team judged to have performed the greatest FA Cup giant killing act each year, are honoured with the FA Ronnie Radford award!

Ronnie is now a part-time joiner living in Wakefield but he travelled down to Hereford for the naming ceremony of Radford Gardens and also found time to reminisce…

“This is a tremendous honour and it is a truly unbelievable.

“When I was interviewed after the game and someone asked me whether that goal would change my life I said ‘No’. I was mistaken. That goal has led to some amazing anniversaries and celebrations over the years. I feel like I have been blessed and I never stop being asked about it, I can never stop thinking about it.

“The people if Hereford love their football and it is nice that this magical period in Hereford’s history will be remembered in this way. The win over Newcastle is something the people of Hereford are very proud of and it is nice Radford Gardens will serve as a reminder of that.”
