Three English Clubs Including Newcastle Table Bids For Bafetimbi Gomis
While Bafetimbi Gomis was running his contract down over the last two years, Newcastle were only one of a number of clubs that have been credited with ongoing interest in the striker.
Now respected website Get French Football News have reported that Gomis is due to make his final decision when he returns from holiday in a week’s time.
They also state that three Premier League clubs have put offers on the table, which includes Newcastle, the other two being QPR and West Ham. However, while Sunderland and Swansea have also been said to be amongst those interested, they haven’t followed that up with an offer.
Despite that, the picture gets even more clouded as at least two Turkish clubs have also made contact with Gomis’ people to make their bid, while most surprising of all, Lyon have put a contract extension on the table for the striker to also consider.
After the endless speculation, it would be most ironic if Gomis was to simply stay put at Lyon.
With only a few weeks until pre-season training begins and with Papiss Cisse not available for the opening matches, Newcastle currently find themselves back to where they were last summer until the late loan introduction of Loic Remy.
United got out of jail on that occasion but if they roll the dice in a similar way again, with only one senior striker brought in at such a late stage, then they would really be asking for trouble.
