Steven Taylor has been reliving his embarrassing sending off on the opening day of last season and believes he can ‘kick on’ from what happened last year.

Taylor talks about being in and out of the team after that Manchester City sending off but the reality is that he didn’t get another Premier League start until five months later, when ironically it was the reverse fixture, and another defeat, against Manchester City.

Speaking to the official club website, Taylor had this to say;

“Next season I have to kick on again and I believe I can.

“There is so much I want to do here and hopefully it is a good season for us.

“It is a massive pre-season coming up for me and the club.

“Last season started in the worst possible way for me with the Manchester City red card.

“I got a 3 match suspension and it killed me, after that I was doing 3 training sessions a day, making sure I caught up on any sort fitness I was missing from the games.

I was devastated and it hurt a lot – from that moment I was in and out, a very frustrating season for me.

“I was just waiting for a chance again and was pleased to get it towards the end of the season.”

In total, Steven Taylor only started nine Premier League matches for Newcastle United last season and in those matches there were seven defeats and only one win and a draw.

United scored four but conceded a massive twenty goals, Taylor now having a massive job to convince everybody at the club, but particularly the fans, that he should be near the first team next season.
