Steven Taylor Commits To Newcastle After ‘Interest’ From Other Clubs

7 years ago

Steven Taylor’s agent has moved to end press speculation (much of it generated from his own previous comments) regarding the Newcastle player’s future.

Jonathan Hope had previously stated that he and Taylor were ‘flattered’ by interest from other Premier League clubs and the player was considering his options.

However, now Hope – when talking to Sky Sports, has stated that Taylor is going nowhere and is committed to Newcastle United;

“I can confirm that I have had talks with several clubs in regards to Taylor – yes a lot of interest and great opportunities, but I will state now, Steven Taylor is going nowhere.

“He’s contractually obliged to Newcastle united and wants to play for the club he loves.

“Despite media reports I am saying now, Steven Taylor and myself aren’t interested in talking to anyone else. Our focus is Newcastle and fighting for a place in Alan Pardew’s plans.

“We’re not looking to leave Newcastle and hopefully this will end speculation over his future.”

No doubt some of you will be wondering if Steven Taylor’s loyalty/interest in staying, is more of the Shola type of loyalty. You know, the one where nobody else ever shows any interest in signing you so it isn’t exactly a difficult decision to pledge yourself to your current club and continue to pick up tens of thousands of pounds a week.

Also, amusing that the agent is portraying himself having to step in and quell a media frenzy of speculation on Taylor’s future.

I like Taylor and think that he is a tryer, even if he isn’t quite good enough with a lack of consistency.

However, this all smacks to me of Taylor’s agent making clear he was available and a lack of interest from credible clubs meaning he’d better put an end to the frenzy…
