Has Shock £10m+ Striker Valuation Ruled Newcastle Out?
Along with Newcastle United, Hamburg have been credited with a long-term interest in German striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
The 22 year old only has one year of his contract left at Hertha Beriln and it is widely expected he will move on this summer.
Having scored 13 Bundesliga goals in only 20 matches (18 starts) while on loan last season, Hamburg were understandably interested in making the deal permanent.
However, Hamburg’s Director Of Football, Oliver Kreuzer, has said that Hertha’s valuation of the striker is, “..almost off the roof”, after they were quoted over £10m for the striker, particularly as Kreuzer points out, Lasogga only has 12 months of his contract to run.
Kreuzer told German publication Bild;
“The Hertha Berlin demands are too high and completely unrealistic, definitely unreasonably high.
“It is almost off the roof and we should be able to agree a more realistic package, especially given the contract situation of the player.”
With only one year left on his contract and Lasogga’s overall profile showing that before his Hamburg goals last season, he had only previously scored 8 Bundesliga goals, a fee of over £10m certainly looks a ‘little’ on the high side.
However, at some point Newcastle have to bite the bullet and spend money on somebody who could bring goals – the alternative is just not worth thinking about.
