Sammy Ameobi – ‘If I’m Not Good Enough I’ll Have To Move On’

Everything I hear about Sammy Ameobi is good, well pretty much everything, the only thing missing is anything productive on the pitch.

We’ve heard plenty times from Alan Pardew that Sammy is flying in training, while people I know who’ve come into contact with him have all said what a canny lad he is.

However, plenty of you who are reading this will be canny lads (and lasses) but don’t get paid thousands of pounds to not produce the goods for Newcastle United.

Happily, Sammy is at least talking a good game and when interviewed by the official club website has said that the only thing important to him this summer is working hard in preparation for next season, with everything else taking second place.

The winger admitting that if he’s shown to not be good enough then he will have top move on.

“I have got one year left on my contract and I have got to prove I am good enough to be a Newcastle player, so I am going to be working very hard over the summer to hopefully start fast next season.

“I can have all the holidays in the world but if I am not right at the start of the season then it is not worth it at all.

“Next season is the big one for me, I am not a kid anymore – I am a grown man.

“I am going to put in the effort and if I am not good enough I will have to move on.

“I believe I have the opportunity to play here so I aim to take it.”

I must admit I find it hard to see that a player who has shown so little, and who turns 23 during next season, can suddenly show himself to be a Premier League player.

In Sammy’s club interview, he also talks about enjoying himself when he did get a run of games, but when you look at the four Premier League matches he started – I don’t think anybody else enjoyed them!

Newcastle 0 Tottenham 4

Chelsea 3 Newcastle 0

Newcastle 0 Sunderland 3

Norwich 0 Newcastle

Maybe with Shola moving on, Sammy will step it up.

Like every young Newcastle player you want them to progress, but with the evidence all pointing to Sammy being not up to the job, let’s hope he can prove so many of us wrong.
