Earlier this week, over 120 children from Tyneside were involved in a high quality football tournament, thanks to JUSTNewcastle, with the help of partners; Newcastle Community Football and Show Racism the Red Card at the second annual schools soccer 6 tournament.

The event on Wednesday 25 June at the Westgate Centre For Sport in Newcastle, featured 16 different teams from schools across the north east.

Newcastle Community Football made sure everything ran smoothly on the day and that the matches had the right balance of commitment but also fair play.

The schools involved ranged from those on both sides of the Tyne and the football was of a very high standard.

The competition ended up with an excellent Dunston Hill beating Milecastle 3-0 in the final. (Milecastle however were a  year 5 team so will be the team to watch in next year’s competition)

The children from years 5 and 6 had more treats in store as they met ex-United legend Olivier Bernard who kindly came along on behalf of Show Racism the Red Card and presented the trophies.

In addition, all children who took part received a JUSTNewcastle junior supporter pack.

The NUST spectacular giant shirt also made an appearance, the 15m x 10m shirt having been kindly presented to the Trust by Northern Rock (now Virgin Money), to help with NUST’s work in the community.

JUSTNewcastle intend this week’s tournament to be only the second of many (depending on future funding), helping to connect the children of the north east with our beloved football club.

All donations and offers of help gratefully received by JUSTNewcastle to aid the Junior Trust’s work in the community, click HERE to find out how.
