Official NUFC Goal Of The Season Awarded To Player Who Never Played A Game!
Even with the official NUFC Goal Of The Season award, Newcastle United have managed to score an own goal.
The club asked fans to vote for their favourite goal of this past (2013/14) season and nominated the ten best goals, from which supporters had to select the one that would be named goal of the season.
In reverse order;
The goal that finished third was Yohan Cabaye’s great long range effort that opened the scoring against Liverpool in the 2-2 draw at St.James’ Park.
In second place, fans selected Moussa Sissoko’s cracker which won the home game against West Brom in November.
While the winner was…Gael Bigirimana.
Yes, that Gael Bigirimana, who was deemed not worthy of a minute of Premier League pitch time throughout the whole of last season by Alan Pardew. The midfielder’s only selection in what was basically a reserve team that faced Morecambe in the League Cup.
Bigi won his goal of the season award for a forty yard screamer into the top corner from 40 yards against West Brom reserves/under 21s.
So the player who scores the official Newcastle United goal of the season is totally ignored by his manager and doesn’t even get on the pitch in the Premier League.
Only at Newcastle.
